SpillSafe® Silt Curtain – 2m Skirt x 10m Section provides a practical and cost-effective solution for controlling suspended sediment and reducing turbidity in calm and low-energy water environments. Designed to create a temporary containment barrier within the water column, the curtain helps confine disturbed sediment close to the source, minimising its movement into surrounding waterways and allowing suspended particles time to settle naturally.

Ideal for construction, civil, mining and environmental applications, the Silt Curtain can be deployed around areas where soil, silt or fine sediment may be disturbed by works occurring in or adjacent to water. By limiting the spread of suspended particles, the curtain assists with protecting surrounding water quality, reducing the environmental impact of site activities and supporting effective sediment and erosion control practices.

The curtain is manufactured from durable geofabric and incorporates a 100mm flotation section along the upper edge to maintain reliable buoyancy at the water surface. A 2 metre deep geofabric skirt extends below the float, while a heavy-duty 8mm ballast chain along the lower edge provides the necessary weight to maintain the curtain’s vertical position within the water column.

Unlike a solid containment boom, a silt curtain is designed specifically to manage suspended sediment rather than floating liquids. The geofabric barrier slows the movement of sediment-laden water through the affected area, helping reduce the migration of fine particles while providing an opportunity for sediment to settle within the controlled zone.

This Class 1 Silt Curtain is best suited to relatively calm, low-energy and non-tidal water conditions where strong currents, significant wave action or rapidly changing water levels are not present. Typical applications include:

Modular 10 Metre Sections

Each curtain is supplied as a 10 metre long section, allowing the system to be configured to suit the required containment area. Multiple sections can be easily joined together to create longer continuous curtain lengths, providing a flexible solution for projects ranging from small localised works through to larger sediment-control zones.

For example, two 10m sections can be connected to create approximately 20m of curtain protection, while additional sections can be added as required to accommodate larger work areas or site-specific configurations.

Choosing the Correct Silt Curtain

The effectiveness of a silt curtain depends on selecting a curtain appropriate for the conditions at the installation site. Factors such as water depth, current velocity, tidal movement, wave action, wind exposure, sediment type and the nature of the works should be considered before deployment. Class 1 curtains are generally intended for calm or protected waters with minimal current and wave activity. More demanding environments may require a higher-class curtain, alternative anchoring arrangements or a different skirt depth.

SpillSafe® Silt Curtains are available in different section lengths and skirt depths, allowing a sediment-control system to be configured around the requirements of the individual site.

Important: Silt curtains are intended to control the movement of suspended sediment within the water column. They are not designed as oil containment booms, flood barriers or permanent water-retaining structures. Site conditions should always be assessed prior to installation to determine the appropriate curtain configuration, anchoring method and deployment arrangement.
